The London Private Apartment That Feels Like a Secret: A Victorian Townhouse in the Heart of Westminster

Finding a truly exceptional place to stay in London is harder than it sounds. This Victorian townhouse in the heart of Westminster’s Pimlico neighborhood is one of those rare exceptions. Built in 1851, it sits quietly in a terraced crescent, featuring high ceilings, marble fireplaces fitted with coal-effect open fires, chandeliers, and its original shutters. The owners lived here from 1985 to 2008 and raised their family within these walls, which explains why the house feels incredibly cozy despite its grandeur.

With seven bedrooms, ornate original details, a wisteria-wrapped garden, and a postcode shared with Buckingham Palace — this home is truly one of the finest private residences available to rent in the city. I featured this home in our Substack newsletter, The Suite Spot, just a few weeks ago and it received several bookings almost immediately.

The Space, in Detail

Seven Bedrooms, Five Bathrooms (Three Full, Two Half)

The Bedrooms

What I love about the sleeping arrangements here is that they actually account for the reality of traveling in a group. Four of the seven bedrooms feature Queen beds, one has a Double, and two rooms have Twin beds — so whether you’re arriving with couples, solo travelers, or the whole extended family, nobody is drawing the short straw.

Two of the bedrooms also have Twin Futons for extra flexibility, and the primary bedroom comes equipped with two cribs for little ones. Every room has blackout blinds or shutters, which matters more than you’d think in a city where summer light lingers until nearly 10pm every night.

The Bathrooms

The home features three full bathrooms and two half bathrooms, meaning there is always somewhere to get ready without anyone rushing or negotiating mirror time. Towels and hairdryers are provided in each of these bathrooms, so you can pack accordingly.

The Common Spaces

This home provides several spaces to relax and unwind, whether together or separately. The kitchen-dining room is plenty spacious, the sitting room is made for unwinding, and a conservatory at the back of the home works beautifully as a quiet office when the trip requires a few hours of real life.

The kitchen itself is the kind you actually want to cook in: three ovens, an American-style fridge freezer, a proper espresso machine, and a dishwasher that handles the aftermath. Outside, a suntrap terrace opens onto a patio garden wrapped in jasmine and wisteria, with a softly running water feature that makes the whole space feel like a natural exhale at the end of a long day in the city.

Located in Pimlico, in the Heart of Westminster

Pimlico is one of those neighborhoods that people who don’t know London overlook entirely, and people who do know London quietly treasure. It sits at the genuine heart of the city without any of the frenetic energy of the tourist corridors. The street has its own residents’ association, the boutique owners know their regular customers, and you’re in the center of it all.

From the front door, on foot, you can reach Buckingham Palace in under ten minutes, Victoria Station in a short stroll, and Tate Britain in five minutes. The Thames, Westminster Abbey, the Houses of Parliament, St James’s Park, and Battersea Park are all within easy reach. Pimlico Underground station is under two minutes away, which means the rest of the city is effectively at your fingertips whenever you want it.

If you tend to plan your travels around an event calendar, you will be very happy here. The Chelsea Flower Show, the Trooping of the Colour, the London Marathon finish line, the New Year’s Day Parade, and the Thames Festival are all within walking distance. On New Year’s Eve, you can watch the fireworks from outside Tate Britain, which is just five minutes from the front door. I genuinely cannot think of a better base for experiencing this city no matter where your itinerary takes you.
